APPLICATION

This BS 6724 cable is designed for fixed power distribution at 1900/3300V (1.9/3.3kV). Its single stranded copper conductor is insulated with XLPE and protected by aluminium wire armour (AWA) and an LSZH outer sheath. Applications include industrial power feeders, substations, plant rooms and infrastructure routes where the project specifies this voltage rating, mechanical protection and low-smoke, halogen-free sheathing.

The dedicated table below lists 13 single-core sizes from 50 to 1000 mm², including strand construction, insulation and sheath dimensions, approximate overall diameters and weights. Use these product-specific values to plan the cable route, handling equipment and accessories, alongside the electrical design and installation assessment.

SELECTION NOTES

Select the copper conductor size for the circuit. Confirm current demand, voltage drop, fault duty and the proposed installation arrangement before selecting a cross-sectional area. The parameter table provides construction data; it does not provide a current-rating schedule. Request the rating calculation for the actual grouping, ambient conditions and route.

Specify AWA for this single-core product. The single-core construction entry, dedicated parameter table and single-core cross-section identify aluminium wire armour. Confirm circuit arrangement, armour bonding and earthing, core identification, glands and terminations with the project designer. The family colour table lists brown or blue for one core; agree the required identification before manufacture.

Check diameter, weight and bending requirements. The 1 x 50 mm² entry is listed at approximately 20.6 mm overall diameter and 790 kg/km. The 1 x 1000 mm² entry is approximately 60.6 mm and 11270 kg/km. All listed sizes are within the technical table's 25 mm²-and-above bending-radius entry of 8 times the overall diameter. Confirm production dimensions, pulling arrangements, cable supports and drum handling for the selected size.

Confirm the final supply specification. State BS 6724, 1900/3300V, single-core stranded copper and AWA. The general construction table includes aluminium and multicore family options; agree the conductor class, final insulation grade and supply drawing for the actual order. Gallery images also include three-core references, so use the single-core data and approved drawing to define the supplied cable.

Describe the installation environment. Provide the tray, duct, riser, trench or other proposed route, together with moisture, sunlight and chemical exposure requirements. Confirm direct-burial suitability for the specific installation. Include total length, drum lengths, sheath colour, required test documents, packing and delivery destination in the enquiry.

FAQ

Which voltage rating and conductor sizes does this page cover?

The voltage rating is 1900/3300V, or 1.9/3.3kV. The table lists 13 single-core sizes from 50 to 1000 mm². Use the row for the chosen size and confirm availability and the final supply specification.

What does the strand-type column describe?

The column gives strand count and individual wire diameter in No./mm. For example, 19/1.78 is listed for 50 mm² and 127/3.20 for 1000 mm². Confirm the agreed conductor construction and class on the approved supply drawing.

Is this single-core cable AWA or steel wire armoured?

The dedicated table specifies aluminium wire armour, abbreviated AWA, consistent with the single-core entry in the construction table. Steel wire armour shown in the multicore family drawings applies to those reference constructions.

What bending-radius information is provided?

The technical table lists 8 times the overall diameter for sizes of 25 mm² and above. All 13 sizes on this page meet that size threshold. Confirm installation and pulling requirements for the cable actually supplied.

Can this cable be installed underground?

Confirm the trench, duct or direct-burial arrangement with the supplier and project designer. Suitability depends on the cable specification, route protection, moisture conditions and other site requirements; armour alone does not settle every installation condition.

Does the LSZH sheath establish fire-resistant circuit integrity?

No. Low-smoke and halogen-free properties, together with the flame-retardance references listed here, do not establish a circuit-integrity classification or fire survival duration. Obtain product-specific test evidence if continued operation during fire is required.

What information is required for a quotation?

Provide BS 6724, 1900/3300V, single-core stranded copper, conductor size, AWA armour, total length and drum lengths. Include conductor class, insulation specification, core identification, sheath requirements, route conditions, test documents, packing and delivery details.
